THE RAZA FOUNDATION INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR ROOP-AROOP-2018 (Young Art Writers Workshop) Application Deadline: 20th December 2017 In continuation of the founder-artist, S.H Razaâ€™s legacy, the Raza Foundation is happy to announce a Biennale of Art Criticism in the month of February 2018 for young practitioners in the field of visual arts. The practice of criticism involves making finer distinctions among like things, but also asking fundamental questions about art and life. The Roop-Aroop program hopes to provide to young art writers and critics, a grounding in the philosophical and historical bases of criticism not only in visual arts but also in classical dance and music in order to help cultivate new ways of seeing, and to provide sources that they can draw on from the other art practices. In addition to the core seminar headed and mentored by specialist in visual arts, the program will offer an array of specialists from classical arts with special emphasis on the history and future of abstraction. The 2 year program is divided into three phases: PHASE I: A 4-day workshop on Art Criticism: Ways of Seeing: February 18-21, 2018, New Delhi, India PHASE II: A 2-day symposium on Abstraction in the Arts: July 2018, Mandla, India PHASE III: An art exhibition: February 2019, New Delhi The program is open to art writers, curators and art historians who write in English or/and Hindi between the age 25-35 years with at least a Masterâ€™s degree in Literature or visual art studies/criticism in Hindi or English.
