“I want to apologize to all the women
I have called pretty
Before I’ve called them intelligent or brave
I am sorry I made it sound as though
Something as simple as what you’re born with
Is the most you have to be proud of when your
Spirits has crushed mountains
From now onwards I will say things like
You are resilient or you are extraordinary
Not because I don’t think you are pretty
But because you are so much more than that…..”
This a poem written by Rupi Kaur, all she meant from these lines is a woman is more than just a pretty face and she is not equal to men but a lot more than men. But does the society feels in the same way? I guess no! Because if they did then why we should be celebrating Women’s Day? The point here is to not to do whatever boys do but to do things that women are meant for and things which she can do but society doesn’t allow doing that. Feminism is all about freedom….freedom of breathing in free air where no male chauvinism is present, where your success is yours and where you are not being judged on the basis that you poses xx chromosome!
We need a day to attribute importance of women because the society has made it that way. A woman is judged on two grounds for having a beautiful face or her ability to give birth to a child! But a woman is a lot more than that! Now take example of Sri Devi she had the most promising career but still she gave up her career to look after her family! Do you think that any man could even have the audacity to do this, No!
A woman is a lot more than a pretty face…..just have a look at your mother and you will understand. Take a pledge to at least consider women equal if not superior than you.
